INDIANAPOLIS -

The City-County Council voted Monday night on a plan they say may save lives.

Starting August 1, all homeowners will be required to install new smoke detectors that include 10-year batteries when their current smoke detectors expire.

The new 10-year smoke detectors cost between $15-20.
