"I definitely started to feel my...feel my...my heart started to race and my nerves started to build. And I was definitely going through the songs that I would have had to sung if it came down to that, because you know it could have and I needed to be ready if that was how it went down," he said after Tuesday's show.Kaufman joins Jake Worthington and Christina Grimmie in Monday's live finals, with the winner announced Tuesday night, live on Channel 13. Andrea Morehead will be in Los Angeles for the finale and will report on the results Monday and Tuesday on Eyewitness News.
Local fans were cheering Kaufman on during Monday's live performance, at a WTHR viewing party at the Colts Grille downtown.
The crowd came with lots of enthusiasm, ready to watch Indy's own Josh Kaufman take the stage for the Voice Top 5. Several ladies wore fedoras - as an homage to Josh's signature look.
Members of his band were there, as well, along with Colts cheerleaders.
"The energy is fantastic in here," said fan Melissa Wise. "It is so fun and crazy!"
Josh gave a lot of love to his hometown of Indianapolis during the show, talking about his love for the city and his love for his family. In fact, his first song was dedicated to his wife and children. It sent fans at the watch party into captivated silence.
They were laser-focused on the emotion Josh poured out, singing John Legend's "All of Me".
Team Josh thought he nailed it.
"I was crying. I was in tears. It was just heart-melting," Wise said. "I think what really did it for me was that he dedicated that to his wife and family."
"He performed it perfectly. I mean, really every note was exactly where it was supposed to be," added fan Heidi Sayre.
Josh kicked it up a notch with his second song of the night, "Love Runs Out" by One Republic.
Now, Indy believes he'll run all the way to the finals.
"100 percent! He's going to the top," Wise said. "I absolutely believe he's going take this whole thing and we're behind him all the way!"
