Northern Indiana prosecutors won't file charges in the drowning death of a toddler who fell into an ornamental landscaping pond in her family's backyard last month.
Peru police officer Matt Feller says Miami County prosecutors reviewed the death of 14-month-old Brianna Rylands and ruled that her drowning was an accident and that no criminal charges would be filed in the case.
Feller tells the Kokomo Tribune the child's death was "just an unfortunate accident" and there was never any indication of foul play.
He says the girl's mother had left her alone in a fenced-in yard for a few minutes and came outside to find the girl drowning in the backyard pond. The youngster was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital where she died two days later.
