Four people have been shot, one fatally, on the east side of Indianapolis.
The shooting happened shortly before 10 p.m. Friday near E. New York St. and N. Denny Ave. Police say the four male victims were shot in a shootout. Two victims, including one who was pronounced dead at the scene, were found shot at that location. A couple blocks away, officers found the other two victims, one shot in the stomach, the other in the face.
Detectives believe the initial responding location is where the shooting began and have recovered several shell casings.
The three wounded victims, all males in their twenties, were taken to Eskenazi Hospital
"I came down to him, I was in the rangers for eight years and I administered CPR but he had already expired," an anonymous neighbor said. Detectives do not believe this incident is random, but have not yet released suspect information.
Saturday afternoon, IMPD identified the shooting victims.
Terrance Holmes, 23, of Indianapolis, died at the scene.
"We're still in shock. A lot of still seems unreal because he worked and went to school and was a good father," said Holmes' cousin, Ashley Patton. Holmes leaves behind two daughters: a three-year-old and a one-year-old.
"When you have someone's back or you're there for friends, it could be you. You have to be careful on what goes on and where you go so we're processing this because we don't know what happened yet," Patton said.
Darion Kennedy, 21; Ronald Kennedy, 23; and Tyree Brodley, 20, all of Indianapolis were injured.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call IMPD Homicide Detectives at (317) 327-3475 or Crime Stoppers of Indiana at (317) 262-TIPS (8477). Callers can also text "INDYCS" plus tip information to 274637 (CRIMES).
