Jordan Stafford, 22, of Fortville, was driving a 1996 Ford pickup southbound on I-69 when Indiana State Police say he struck two construction workers who were removing traffic cones in the area. It happened near the Marion-Hamilton County line.
In 2012, Stafford pleaded guilty to drug charges (possession of a controlled substance – D felony; possession of marijuana and operating a vehicle with a Schedule I or II controlled substance) in Hancock County. The judge sentenced him to three years in jail, drug testing and restricted his driver’s license for six months.
Later, the work release was changed to home detention, and the court suggested that Community Corrections increase his alcohol testing.
When Stafford failed a drug test last year, the judge ordered his probation be extended for up to two years or until he completes drug and alcohol treatment.
