Plan approved for wind farm that Purdue will study

Updated:
LAFAYETTE - A developer has won zoning approval for a small wind farm where Purdue University researchers plan to study the impact of the large turbines.

A Tippecanoe County zoning board voted Wednesday to give permission for the project. Indianapolis-based developer Performance Services plans to start building the dozen 432-foot towers this summer in the rural area north of Lafayette.

The project is called Purdue Energy Park although the Journal & Courier reports
the school doesn't have any financial involvement and the turbines won't be built on university property as originally proposed.

Purdue planning director Ken Sandel says the wind farm will be studied for light and noise impacts and used for training on its operations.
