Culinary school proposed for former hall of fame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -

The South Bend Redevelopment Commission will consider a request to take the former College Football Hall of Fame building off the market for six months to give Ivy Tech Community College time to determine whether to place its culinary program there.

The South Bend Tribune reports a group named the Culinary Center Coalition presented the idea Tuesday at the Greentown Michiana conference. Department of Community Investment Executive Director Scott Ford says the concept would help seed culinary entrepreneurship while also maintaining a vibrant atmosphere around an important downtown building.

The hall closed in November 2012, three years after the National Football Foundation announced the museum would move from South Bend to Atlanta following years of low attendance.
