INDIANAPOLIS -

A man with autism has been found safe after he was reported missing Saturday afternoon.

Jerome Parks, 23, was reported missing around 3:00 p.m. from his group home in the 5100 block of Guion Road on the northwest side, according to authorities. Search crews found him around four hours later in the area of 16th Street and Senate Blvd, thanks to the efforts of police, firefighters and even the IMPD helicopter.

As of Saturday night, officers said it was still unclear why Parks wandered off from the group home where he lives.

"They are given as much freedom and independence as possible and sometimes these things occur, and that's the reason for our search and rescue teams," said Robert Saunders with the Pike Township Fire Department.

Parks was evaluated when searchers found him, and authorities said he had no life-threatening injuries.
