IMPD identifies couple involved in deadly shooting

Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS - Indianapolis Metro Police have identified a woman they say shot her ex-husband before fatally shooting herself on the far southwest side of Indianapolis Thursday night.

It all happened after 10 p.m. Thursday in the 7300 block of Jackie Lane, northeast of Mooresville Road and Southport Road.

Police say Jill Rogers, 48, shot Rex Bernard, 41, before she shot herself.

Bernard was taken to the hospital to be treated for gunshot wounds. At last check, he was in stable condition. Rogers died at the scene.

“They were quiet and kept to themselves,” next door neighbor Julie Sexton said.

“This is a very quiet neighborhood and very close knit, the neighbors are very good people so it came as a surprise,” said neighbor Penny Fasel.

Restoration crews spent much of Saturday at the home, trying to make repairs inside.

“We're just praying for the family and hoping that everything gets worked out and we're praying for him that he'll get better,” Fasel said.

The shooting came just hours after an IMPD officer fatally shot his ex-wife in her home before shooting himself.
