5 things you should know this Friday morning

Updated:

A NIGHT OF FIRES:

A firefighter was injured fighting a fire on Udell St. around 2:45 this morning. The house was vacant, but neighboring homes were forced to evacuate. The firefighter's injury was not serious. Another fire on Roxbury Road near 56th and Arlington was burning at around the same time. Three people were evacuated safely.

GIRL SHOT WHILE SLEEPING:

A 12-year-old girl was shot while she slept. Last night, gunmen fired outside her apartment on Ashley Lane, near the intersection of 34th and Moller. One of the bullets crashed through her window and struck her arm. She was taken to the hospital, where she is expected to make a full recovery. Police don't know if the apartment was targeted deliberately, or if the girl was hit by a stray bullet, but they have found over a dozen shell casings nearby.

DETAILS OF DEADLY CRASH:

More information is emerging about the deadly crash outside of Edgewood that claimed the life of a man and injured his wife and unborn daughter. Police say that the officer charged with driving while under the influence of prescription drugs was driving 92 miles an hour. They also say he never hit his brakes. Suspended officer James Foutch admits to taking hydrocodone and Xanax before the fatal accident. A website is currently accepting donations for the family.

WARM WEATHER THIS WEEKEND:

Today will be a little cooler than yesterday, though the high will still hit a pleasant 65 degrees. There is a slight chance of rain, though we shouldn't see strong precipitation the rest of the weekend. Highs on Saturday and Sunday could climb into the middle to upper 70s. A cold front will come in Sunday night, bringing storms and much cooler air on Monday.

INDY ELEVEN & PACERS:

Lebron James has said that when his Miami Heat face down the Indiana Pacers tonight, "it's going to look like game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals." With the Pacers only a half-game ahead of the Heat in the battle for the top seed in the Conference, its set to be a slug-fest on South Beach. And, here in the Circle City, the Indy Eleven soccer-team is kicking off its inaugural game at 7:30 tomorrow night. They're playing the Carolina Railhawks at IUPUI's Carroll Stadium. Tickets are still available online or at the box office.
