5 things to know this Thursday morning

Updated:

DEADLY APARTMENT FIRE:

A 60-year-old woman was killed by a fire on the Indianapolis' northwest side this morning. She was in the apartment where the fire started. Fire officials blame unattended food on the stove. Two other people were slightly hurt in the fire. One resident escaped the fire by jumping out of a second floor window onto a mattress that her neighbors had pulled out.

THREAT AT PENDLETON SCHOOL:

A Pendleton middle-schooler faces expulsion today after investigators say he sent a message on Instagram threatening to kill fellow students one-by-one. Yesterday, 17 police officers were positioned around Predilection Heights Middle School to protect against the threat. Parents are upset with administrators because they were not alerted to the threat until their children were already in classes. The principal said the school wanted to avoid creating hysteria.

PACERS NUMBER ONE AGAIN:

The Indiana Pacers are the number one seed in the Eastern Conference after besting the Milwaukee Bucks 104-102. The Pacers did it despite resting all five of their starters for the entire game. Chris Copeland scored the game winning points with just 1.3 seconds remaining on the clock. The Pacers were helped by the Miami Heat's loss to the Memphis Grizzlies last night. Indiana and Miami face off tomorrow night in Miami, in a contest that could decide the playoff position of both teams.

WONDERFUL WARM WEATHER:

Today may be the warmest day yet this year with a high that should top 70 degrees. A cold front will move in this evening, bringing some scattered showers and lower temperatures. As we head into the weekend, the weather should remain pleasant and relatively warm before another cold front brings storms and highs in the 40s to start the week next Monday.

RACE FOR THE CURE:

This weekend you can help in the battle against cancer by participating in the Susan G. Komen Foundation's "Race for the Cure" in downtown Indianapolis.
