EVANSVILLE, Ind. -

A federal judge Thursday ordered Indiana to immediately recognize the out-of-state marriage of a lesbian couple in Munster.

U.S. District Judge Richard Young in Evansville ruled in favor of Amy Sandler, Niki Quasney and their two children.

The couple has a civil union in Illinois and were married in Massachusetts last year. Quasney is battling stage four ovarian cancer, so the couple wanted their marriage recognized in Indiana so the legal protections would be in place before she dies.

Their case was only one of five in Young's court challenging Indiana's same-sex marriage ban.
