Regulators seek public input on energy efficiency

Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission is seeking recommendations from the public on ways to set new energy efficiency goals for the state.

The Times of Munster reports the IURC will be accepting public comments in writing until June 9.

The move comes after the General Assembly earlier this year voted to end a program that provided utility consumers with free energy audits and other services. The measure was passed after some large industrial and commercial customers complained the old program was too costly and provided them with few benefits.

Gov. Mike Pence asked the IURC to make recommendations on energy efficiency policies and programs so that they could serve as a framework for potential legislation next year.
