NOBLESVILLE, Ind. -

A $22 million amateur sports complex is planned for Greenwood on the former proposed site for a Cabela's store.

The development from GoodSports Enterprises will feature an 85,000-square-foot facility to host prep sports tournaments, and will include a hotel and a massive fitness center for the public.

GoodSports says families would benefit the most.

"This is about the kids and if we work together and really knock this out of the park, who's going to benefit? It's the kids. They're the ones who are going to become the best athletes and that's what we're looking for," said David Lindbert with GoodSports.

The construction will take place on the site near Graham and County Line roads once reserved for a new Cabela's before that retailer backed out of a deal with the city. Last month, Cabela's announced plans to build a store in Noblesville.

GoodSports says the complex will be designed with "traveling athletes" in mind. The company estimates some 53 million Americans travel to participate in sporting events, and its plan is to build 25 similar "villages" throughout the United States over the next four years.

The company also says the facility will serve the needs of athletes specifically. It estimates that the sports complex will create about 300 jobs during construction and 112 permanent positions in the hotel and fieldhouse.

It's expected to open in 2015.
