Indiana Sen. Dan Coats confused a Congressional witness with a question this week - because the senator was actually in the wrong hearing.

The senator thought he was at an appropriations hearing on the defense budget, and began with a long introduction to his question. But after a moment, he interrupted Sen. Tom Udall (D-NM) to say, "I just got a note saying I'm at the wrong hearing."

"Oh, okay," Sen. Udall replied, smiling.

"I've got the right room number but the wrong hearing," said Sen. Coats.

"Well, that would explain why I didn't know anything about this letter," said David Cohen, undersecretary of treasury for terrorism and financial intelligence.

"Well, this is the first time this has ever happened to me, but I hope it's not a precursor..." Coats joked.

"You're always welcome in our committee!" said Sen. Udall.

Everyone had a good laugh about the mix-up and Sen. Coats found his way to the correct room.
