Notre Dame freshman forward Taya Reimer says she is ready for her big opportunity.
Coach Muffet McGraw says Reimer likely will start against Maryland (28-6) on Sunday in the national semifinal in place of third-team All-American Natalie Achonwa, who sustained a season-ending knee injury.
McGraw says it will take a team effort to replace Achonwa, but Reimer figures to carry some of the load. She is 6-3, like Achonwa, and has some of the same skills.
McGraw says the Irish coaches have been telling Reimer to be herself, not to try to be Achonwa.
McGraw also says the Irish aren't feeling sorry for themselves about the injury to Achonwa. McGraw likes that some people are counting Notre Dame out and hopes her players use that as motivation.
