IMPD identifies man killed in shooting on W. 16th Street

INDIANAPOLIS -

Metro Police have identified a man who was killed in a shooting on West 16th Street this morning.

The victim was identified as Nathan Trapuzzano, 24, of Indianapolis.

The shooting happened between the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Tibbs Ave. just before 6:00 am.

Detectives believe Trapuzzano was on his usual morning walk when two suspects approached him. The first suspect forced him between two businesses while the other acted as lookout. Police say Trapuzzano struggled with the first suspect and was shot.

One of the suspects fled northeast across West 16th Street while the other fled west on West 16th Street.

Anyone in the immediate area between the hours of 5:44 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. are urged to call detectives at 327-3475.  Callers wishing to remain anonymous they can contact Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).  Callers can also text "INDYCS" plus tip information to 274627(CRIMES). 

IMPD's Southwest and Northwest districts will hold a joint roll call in the 3500 block of W. 16th St. at 5:30 pm Tuesday. Officers will be canvassing the neighborhood for information. 

The family of the Trapuzzano's widow has created a fundraising website to raise money for his funeral and for the couple's unborn baby.
