RICHMOND, Ind. -

An eastern Indiana man has been sentenced to 55 years in prison for a fatal 2010 shooting that authorities say stemmed from a dispute over a valuable coin collection.

A Wayne County judge ordered the sentence Thursday for Thomas Holliday of Richmond. He was convicted of murder in the shooting of 69-year-old Richard Smith of Williamsburg.

The Palladium-Item reports prosecutors say Smith had given his coin collection to Holliday, who had said he could sell it for more money than a previous appraisal. After several months of delays, Smith demanded return of the coins or $26,000.

Police say Holliday later went to Smith's home and killed him.

Holliday's defense attorney says he was a law-abiding citizen before neck surgery led to a pain medication addiction.
