Hendricks County investigating early morning home robbery

AVON, Ind. -

Hendricks County authorities are investigating an armed robbery of a man in his garage early Tuesday morning.

Police say Jeff Russell was working in his detached garage in the 5800 block of County Road 150 North around 5:00 a.m. when two men confronted him.

Russell said he hit one in the head, but the other put a gun to his head.  The men made Russell kneel down and handcuffed him, threatening to kill him if he didn't give them money, according to police.

After they took his wallet and punched him, the men handcuffed him to a tool cart and stole his work truck to get away.

Russell yelled for help and a neighbor responded and cut off the handcuffs.

He told Eyewitness News he was alright - just angry. He moved out to Hendricks County to get away from this sort of thing and he's mad the suspects got away before he could really fight back.

"This is not typical, but unfortunately it's a sign of the times, you know?" said Lt. Jim Yetter with the Hendricks County Sheriff's Department. "We're having more crime out here and we're doing the best we can to stop it and catch these guys."

Russell described the suspects as black males wearing dark puffy coats with hoodies and gloves. One is 6'3", 260 pounds, dark-skinned with a goatee. The other is lighter-skinned and stands 5'10" with a thin build and face.

Russell's truck was found Monday afternoon behind a business near US-36 and SR-267, but still no sign of the suspects themselves. Investigators are going over security tapes of the local businesses nearby to see if any outside security cameras got video of the two men.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Hendricks County Sheriff at (317) 745-6464.
