A Hartford City woman was killed in a traffic accident in Madison County Sunday afternoon.
An SUV was driving westbound on County Road 600 North around 1:10 p.m., according to Major Brian K. Bell with the Madison County Sheriff's Department. Preliminary witness statements and evidence showed that the driver stopped at the intersection of County Road 100 West, but pulled into the path of a pickup truck that was driving southbound on CR-100.
The truck hit the SUV on the passenger's side with such force both vehicles ended up off the road.
The passenger in the SUV, 71-year-old Mary Louise Ward, was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. The driver, 76-year-old Elizabeth Ann Creamer of Alexandria, was also hospitalized. No word on her condition.
The driver of the pickup truck was treated for minor hand injuries then released.
