INDIANAPOLIS -

Senior basketball standout Trey Lyles has been named the Gatorade Player of the Year for Boy's Basketball.

The Gatorade Player of the Year is widely considered the highest honor recognizing a high school student athlete in the nation.

Lyles is commited to the University of Kentucky for the 2014-12015 school year.

"I'm just thankful and honored. Without my teammates, I wouldn't be able to do anything because they sacrifice for me. I just have a lot of thanks for them and a lot of thanks for the coaches. I'm just happy to be in the situation I'm in," he said.

"It's something that he's earned because he's worked for it. It honors his academic achievement, his citizenship, his character and then his basketball. Everyone knows he's such a great basketball player but now they get to see he's the all-around citizen and just a class act. That's the thing that makes me most proud about this award for him is that it shows off the character of who he is and it's just an honor for the school, for his family, for him to win this honor," said Jason Delaney, Tech coach.

The Titans take on Bloomington North Saturday night at 6:15 pm in Richmond. Over 800 Titan fans will be there for the school's first appearance in semi-state in 48 years - and so will Eyewitness Sports! Watch WTHR at 11:00 pm for game highlights.
