Indiana University says alert system glitch fixed

Updated:
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -

Indiana University officials say glitches found during a test of its text messaging alert system have been fixed.

University officials activated the IU-Notify emergency notification system on Thursday during statewide tests as part of Severe Weather Preparedness Week. That IU system sends emails and text messages about emergency alerts to students and employees.

Bloomington campus emergency management director Debbi Fletcher says an attempt to streamline the process caused some messages to be sent incorrectly.

Fletcher tells The Herald-Times that the problem was fixed for the "all-clear" message that was sent a few minutes later to those on the 42,000-student campus. She says Thursday's test accomplished its purpose of identifying problems.
