Husband and wife sheriff's deputies in Hendricks County are in trouble and their boss wants to fire them from their jobs.

Eyewitness News has confirmed Deputies Jason and Teresa Woods are also the targets of a criminal investigation. Next week, the deputies will hear what the sheriff calls "serious violations" and what he calls very disappointing behavior for someone carrying a badge.

A source tells Eyewitness News the couple is the target of a State Police and Homeland Security Investigation having financial ties to a large-scale Spice operation.

Sheriff Dave Galloway already ordered the pair to turn in their squad cars and all other department-issued gear.

Deputy Jason Woods has put in about 14 years with the department. He started his career working inside the jail. Sources say after several tries, his wife Teresa finally passed hiring tests about eight years ago.

Galloway would not elaborate on the couple's state and federal criminal investigation. Without going into details, he outlined the department rules he says the couple violated.

"The rules they violated are performance of duty when enforcements are required, performance of duty with required action, criminal information when it came to their knowledge and they did nothing with it and conduct unbecoming an officer," Galloway said.

State police did confirm to Eyewitness News that Galloway contacted them to launch an independent investigation. The sheriff says the details of what the couple is accused of doing will come out next week when they come to the Hendricks County Government Center to defend themselves.

No one answered the door at the couple's home when Eyewitness News visited seeking comment.

The Woods' attorney, John Kautzman, issued the following statement on the couple's behalf Thursday afternoon:

"Jason and Teresa Woods steadfastly and categorically deny the allegations brought against them by the Hendricks County Sheriff. These charges are based upon mere speculation and innuendo, and even imply criminal wrongdoing without any basis known to my clients. These deputies are entitled to due process and fundamental fairness in the Merit Board proceedings, and they look forward to the opportunity to clear their good names and reputations as soon as possible."
