Hoosiers need to take advantage of long offseason

INDIANAPOLIS -

Indiana coach Tom Crean is convinced he has the talent to win.

He just needs his young players to mature.

It didn't happen this season, and now the Hoosiers will get an unexpectedly long offseason to try and get the persistent problems fixed.

Nobody expected the transition from Big Ten champions to up-and-coming challengers to be easy. Indiana had to replace four 1,000-point scorers, including two players who went in the top four picks of June's NBA draft.

But few expected this season to be so challenging or end so early - with a 64-54 loss Illinois on Thursday in the league tournament.
