Earthquake strongly felt across Los Angeles

Updated:

A magnitude 4.4 earthquake shook southern California on Monday morning.

The quake was centered northwest of Westwood and rattled a large part of the region, but there have been no reports of significant damage.

Strong shaking was reported throughout the region, including the San Fernando Valley, Ventura County, and Huntington Beach.

Minor delays were reported on Metro rail lines but normal service resumed when officials reported no damage.

"I'm sure this earthquake was felt by a number of people throughout the Los Angeles area. At this point we have no reports of any damage. Our expectation would be at that level of shaking that the damage would be slight if it occurred at all," said Robert Grades, United States Geological Survey.

Several aftershocks have been reported, including one of magnitude greater than 2.7.
