State Police say a 48-year-old western Indiana man was fatally shot after he refused to surrender his handgun to officers responding to reports of a suicidal person.
James Jarman was pronounced dead at the scene of Friday night's shooting in Linton. It's unclear if Jarman took his own life or died from police gunfire.
State troopers, Linton police and Greene County deputies were dispatched to a home in the town about 30 miles southeast of Terre Haute in response to reports of a suicidal person.
State Police say officers found Jarman on the back porch of the home with a handgun. When Jarman refused to give up his gun, police say a "conflict" developed during which shots were fired and Jarman was fatally wounded.
