Park Tudor apologizes for Black History Month menu

Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

Officials at Park Tudor are apologizing for a school lunch menu intended to celebrate Black History Month.

The school's cafeteria served fried chicken, collard greens and a "soul food bar." Critics say the offering reinforces negative racist stereotypes.

"What we've learned from this is, we have to have a more intentional, coordinated, collaborative effort in terms of celebrating and understanding what we're doing in the various divisions with regards to issues of diversity," said Dr. John Daves, diversity director at Park Tudor.

While this is not the first time Park Tudor has served soul food in honor of Black History Month, the school issued a statement saying it understands the lunch was offensive and misguided.
