GREENSBURG -

Police are searching for answers in the case of a father and son found dead in what appears to be a murder-suicide.

Investigators believe 44-year-old Gregory Hall shot his 14-year-old son Tyler, then turned the gun on himself in his car near the Greensburg City Park late Tuesday night.

As a memorial grows near the scene of the shootings, those who knew the young victim are asking how this could have happened.

"We had two classes together," said Kyleigh Parker, an eighth grader at Greensburg Junior High School.

On Wednesday, learning at Greensburg Junior High School gave way to reflecting on the life of their classmate.

"The first class that I went to today, I look at his chair and started crying and then went to the counselor's office and we all just got there. There was a bunch of us that went," Parker said.

"It is a little bit somber today," said student resource officer Bruce Copple.

Extra counselors have been on hand all day and will continue to be around through at the least the end of the week.

"Kids are talking with each other, sharing times that they recall with Tyler," Copple said.

Hall would have finished eighth grade this spring.

"Tyler was a young man who we always saw a big smile on his face. He was a young man who loved to read," Copple said.

All of that, police say, was cut short by his own father. Tyler lived with his mother and police say his father picked him up after school Tuesday. Gregory Hall is listed as living with extended family about 30 minutes away, near Rushville.

No one answered the door when Eyewitness News went to Hall's home seeking comment.

"Very quiet and peaceful. Wonderful neighbors. Everybody waves to one another," said neighbor John Beenagh.

Neighbors are just as shocked as anyone.

"It's a shame. You just never know, life can change so quickly," Beenagh said.

All that's left are questions as to why this would happen and memories of a 14-year-old who loved spending time with friends.

"He had the biggest smile. Anybody...they just fell in love with him," Parker said.

Gregory Hall's criminal record included a charge last fall for auto theft. It is unclear if the father was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Autopsies on both victims will be performed Thursday in Indianapolis.
