Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard took personal time Sunday morning to come by the deadly fire scene in the 2100 block of Olney Street which claimed six lives.

"It's difficult to put into words because so many people tried to help," Mayor Ballard said.

Lionel "Leo" Guerra, 47, and his wife Brandy Guerra, 33 died Saturday at Eskenazi hospital.

The couple's son Esteban, 11, and daughter Blanquita, 8, passed away at Riley Children's Hospital Saturday.

Sunday afternoon, 14-year-old Miranda Guerra and 6-year-old Fuentes Guerra died at Riley Children's Hospital.

"Everybody is feeling for that family," Mayor Ballard said. "There was a family here; a family that was going to grow up in America; the young kids had everything in front of them and now that's not going to happen. It's very sad."

Mayor Ballard also said the loss is taking a toll on first responders.

"I feel for the firefighters and the paramedics and everybody else who rushed over here to do everything right," Mayor Ballard said.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries, but did not require a trip to the hospital.

The family said they plan to set up a memorial fund on Monday at a local bank.

"The city feels it, everybody kind of feels it, it's tragic," Mayor Ballard said.
