An Arizona company has been chosen to study a proposed Terre Haute sports district that would finance a $35 million renovation of Indiana State University's 40-year-old Hulman Center.
The Terre Haute Board of Public Works and Safety on Monday approved hiring Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Nations Wright to conduct a feasibility study of the proposed sports financing district. Sales taxes within that district would be diverted from the state to renovate the sports arena that opened in 1973.
Republican state Rep. Bob Heaton of Terre Haute proposed the sports district concept, which needs legislative approval to move forward.
Terre Haute City attorney Chou-il Lee tells the Tribune-Star he hopes lawmakers approve a bill this session that would create the Terre Haute sports district and another sports district proposed for Indianapolis.
