Employers scrutinize latest health care concession

Updated:
WASHINGTON, D.C. -

The White House has granted employers another concession on health care, but the details are buried in more than 200 pages of dense Treasury regulations.

Medium-sized companies are getting a delay in a heavily criticized requirement to cover their workers or face fines. That may help Democratic chances of hanging on to the Senate in the midterm elections.

The administration said Monday that companies with 50 to 99 employees will have an additional year to comply, until January 1, 2016.

For businesses with 100 or more employees the so-called employer mandate will still take effect in 2015.

The mandate for firms with 50 or more workers was originally supposed to be effective this year, until first delay was announced last summer.
