Police chase in southern Indiana ends with shooting

Updated:
HARRISON COUNTY, INDIANA -

Indiana State Police troopers are investigating an early morning pursuit that began in Harrison County and ended in Orange County in southern Indiana.

Just before 2:00 a.m. Monday, the Harrison County Sheriff's Department started a vehicle pursuit on a black Honda Civic in the town of Palmyra. The pursuit traveled west on U.S. 150 through Washington County and into Orange County, where it reached the town of Rego. The pursuit continued south through county roads, eventually traveling onto Valeene Road. The suspect vehicle turned west at County Road 820 South, which led to a dead end.

After reaching the end of the road, the suspect vehicle turned around and faced the deputy. The deputy got out of his car and ordered the suspect to stop. As the suspect vehicle drove towards the deputy, the deputy fired his weapon, striking two suspects inside the vehicle through the windshield.

The vehicle continued to move towards the deputy, striking him and throwing him onto the hood of his patrol car. That deputy suffered leg and back injuries.

An Indiana Conservation Officer was behind the deputy, blocked the suspect vehicle, and ordered the suspects out of the car. The suspects were then taken into custody without further incident.

Right now, Indiana State Police is not releasing the names of the suspects or the deputy who was injured.
