INDIANAPOLIS -

A car rear-ended a Washington Township school bus at 72nd St. and Township Line Road on Wednesday morning.

Bus number 26 was on its normal route to pick up students and bring them to Spring Mill Elementary School when a car rear-ended it. The school district says the driver of the car fell asleep at the wheel. The crash was not weather-related.

All of the students on the bus were evaluated at the scene by Pike Fire/EMS, per school district standard operating procedures. Four students received additional medical evaluations as a precautionary measure.

There were no major injuries among students or Washington Township staff.

"All accident protocols were followed properly by district staff. We are glad that all students and staff are safe, and our focus remains on safety," says Dr. Nikki Woodson, Superintendent MSDWT.
