Polar plunge for Special Olympics

Updated:

While most people spent the day warming up indoors others braved the cold wearing only their bathing suits.

A courageous group of more than 300 people splashed into icy waters Saturday morning at Butler University.

The above-ground pool was set-up on campus for the annual Polar Plunge.

Student groups and community members dove in to raise money for the Special Olympics of Hamilton County.

"There's really no appeal (laughs). I'm being honest. But it's the appeal of just feeling that self-worth of helping some people out who are truly great people and they really need this for them," said Ryan Mughmaw.

In addition to setting an attendance record this year participants also collected $28,500 for the non-profit. The highest amount ever raised at the event.
