INDIANAPOLIS -

The snow that started late Friday night and continued Saturday morning caused traffic problems around Central Indiana this morning.

The State Police post in Pendleton reported 50 to 60 crashes and slide-offs on I 69 between Muncie and Fishers.

A semi roll over on I 65 in the northbound lanes just north of the US 52 forced the closure of the right hand lane of the highway for several hours. All lanes of the road were closed for a short time while crews worked to remove the semi from the side of the interstate. There were no injuries.

Another accident on I 74  at the 48 mile marker eastbound just west of the Jamestown exit involved several vehicles and some injuries.

There were also reports of slide offs and crashes on I 74 east of Indianapolis Saturday morning.

The Indiana Department of Transportation is warning drivers to expect poor travel conditions over the weekend.

The forecast is for two to four inches of snow starting Friday night between 10:00 and 11:00 pm and finishing up by mid-day Saturday. Another one to three inches could fall Sunday morning.

Winds over 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph will cause blowing and drifting snow on roads, reducing visibility and making travel tough in possible white-out conditions.

INDOT says it has yellow trucks on patrol, plowing back areas of blowing and drifting and making room for more snow. Additional crews will be called in to plow and treat interstates, U.S. highways and state routes as needed.

Cold temperatures and periods of snowfall are expected to continue for several days and into next week. Stay tuned to WTHR Channel 13 for weather updates.

If you must drive this weekend, be prepared to slow down and give yourself more time to reach your destination. Crashes, slide offs and traffic backups prevent INDOT trucks from plowing and treating routes on a regular schedule of every 2-3 hours, and jeopardize the safety of other motorists.
