Bargersville gas leak stopped after evacuations

BARGERSVILLE, Ind. -

Bargersville firefighters and utility workers are investigating a natural gas leak that led to the evacuation of nearby residents.

The reported leak is in the area of the Kerrington Proper subdivision in the 5500 block of Whiteland Road near Morgantown Road. Firefighters advised residents that were able to safely evacuate the area to do so.

Vectren officials checked on the possible leak and stopped or contained it a short time later. Residents are now allowed to return to their homes, however anyone who smells an odor of gas in their home is urged to open windows for ventilation and to avoid ignition sources.

Several residents in the area had reported the odor to authorities.
