Wind chill advisory precedes more weekend snow - 13 WTHR Indianapolis

Wind chill advisory precedes more weekend snow

Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect for all of Central Indiana until noon on Friday. At times, wind chills will be dangerously cold, dipping to -25 degrees.

Highs will only reach the single digits today.  We're looking for a high of 5 or 6 with wind gusts out of the west up to 25mph.  That means it will feel more like -25.  A few snow showers will be possible, but we're not looking for any accumulation in the central part of our state.

Tonight skies will be partly cloudy as temps fall below 0.  Temps will range from -5 to -11, with wind chills of -30.

Friday we're a bit warmer with highs in the upper teens, however, wind chill will continue to be an issue.

As of now, snow appears likely from Friday night into Saturday midday.  Early accumulation numbers range from 2" to 4″ of snow by early Saturday afternoon.  That's not a lot of snow, but with wind gusts up to 25 mph, blowing and drifting snow will be a big concern.  Visibilities will be reduced, and keeping roads clear will be an uphill battle for plow crews and salt trucks.

Sunday we could warm into the low 30s. But another chance of snow is coming our way.  I'd plan on more light accumulation.  We'll keep you posted on the timing, and of course the track of the snow, which will help determine just how much snow we do pick up.

After Sunday's blast of snow, bitter cold air moves in for next week, with overnight lows in sub-zero territory, and daytime highs only rebounding to the single digits.
