INDIANAPOLIS -

Sports apparel retailer Hat World is planning to move to a new headquarters and expand its distribution operations in central Indiana, which it says could add hundreds of jobs in the coming years.

Gov. Mike Pence joined company officials for the announcement Friday that Hat World will spend nearly $22 million to build a new headquarters in Zionsville and add more warehouse space in Indianapolis.

The company will be moving from its current Indianapolis headquarters to the northwestern suburb. Hat World says it expects to hire about 300 new office workers by early 2016 for the new headquarters.

The company was founded in Lafayette in 1995 and is now owned by Tennessee-based Genesco. Hat World has more than 1,000 retail stores around the country under the Lids brand name.
