INDIANAPOLIS -

The morning commute has been a tough one for drivers around central and northwestern Indiana.

Indiana State Police say that deteriorating weather conditions have shut down portions of I-65 and I-70.  From the south of Indianapolis, northbound I-65 from U.S. 31 to Whiteland Road is currently closed off, after several reports of slide-offs in the area. Southbound I-65 in that area is open right now, but that could change later this morning.

Also, both directions of I-65 stretching from Lafayette to Merrillville in northwest Indiana, is closed off.  There have been several slide-off accidents due to road conditions getting worse overnight.  As of 6:00 a.m., authorities tell Eyewitness News that it could take 10 to 11 hours to re-open that stretch of I-65 north of Lafayette.

An accident earlier this morning on westbound I-70, just west of State Road 267 in Hendricks County, has traffic there at a standstill.  INDOT says traffic there could be stuck for another 1 to 2 hours, while the crash is cleaned up.
