MADISON COUNTY, INDIANA -

A Madison County deputy's car was rear-ended early Saturday morning, sending the deputy and two others to area hospitals.

It happened about 4 a.m. Saturday at mile marker 215 on I-69 - between the Lapel and Pendleton exits.

Madison County Sheriff Ron Richardson said 6 year police veteran Christopher Burkhardt had responded to an accident involving Kaley Becker, 22, Noblesville.  Both were sitting in the patrol car when it was rear-ended by a second vehicle driven by Cheryl Sale, 29, Pendleton.

The Burkhardt was treated and released from Anderson St. Vincent Hospital.

Becker and Sale were taken to St. Vincent Northeast.   Their conditions are unknown.

Officials say alcohol may have been a factor in both accidents.

All lanes of I-69 were open by 6:30 a.m.
