Woman dies in south side crash


A 77-year-old woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash early New Year's morning at the intersection of Kentucky and Raymond.

Officers at the scene tell Eyewitness News the woman was driving eastbound on Raymond at 2:00 a.m. with her son in the passenger seat of their blue SUV.

A 29-year-old man driving southbound on Kentucky in a dark red SUV drove through a red light and struck the woman's vehicle directly on the driver's side.

She had to be extricated and was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. Police dispatch confirmed she later died.

The driver of the other vehicle was also taken to the hospital with head injuries not believed to be life-threatening.  He will undergo a blood draw to determine whether he was driving drunk.

The woman's son was not seriously hurt.

Police have not released the names of those involved.
