INDIANAPOLIS -

Indianapolis Metro Police are investigating two people shot, one fatally, on the Indianapolis south side.

It happened at Madison and Edgewood next to a vacant retail store. According to police, notes left at the scene suggested a suicide pact.

Police confirm this was a murder and attempted suicide. One person was found dead at the scene. The alleged shooter was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.

Police say they found suicide notes at the scene indicating the two people were in a situation they could no longer cope with,. Officers did not go into detail, but said the note indicated the two men wanted their pain and suffering to end, and that they wanted to take their own lives in a public way.

Witnesses told police they saw a vehicle enter the parking lot, circle around several times and then park. A man got out of the driver's side, then placed the passenger in a wheelchair next to the vehicle and shot the victim twice in the face before turning the gun on himself.

"It was scary because it's so close to home. Then when I saw the elderly man in a wheelchair, it really hurt, because I didn't really know where he's at," said Barbara Price, witness.

Police have not provided ages for the victims, nor have they identified them.
