Deputies arrest man on suspicion of dealing marijuana

Updated:

Deputies arrested a man on suspicion of dealing marijuana and reckless possession of paraphernalia Sunday night, after he almost hit a deputy in his car.

A Johnson County Sheriff's deputy pulled over Larry R. Smith, after Smith crossed the dividing lane on State Road 135, causing the deputy to swerve to avoid being hit. The deputy reports Smith then nearly hit several other cars, causing two of them to collide into each other.

Smith told the deputy he had not been drinking, but was tired and hadn't been sleeping well. During the traffic stop, the deputy reports finding two separate sandwich bags containing marijuana and a set of digital scales in the vehicle.

Smith went to the Johnson County jail on suspicion of dealing marijuana over 30 grams, and reckless possession of paraphernalia. He was also cited for driving left of the center, almost striking the deputy's car and for unsafe lane movement that caused a crash.
