IMPD identifies victim in fatal northwest side shooting

INDIANAPOLIS -

Police have identified the victim in a fatal shooting overnight as 20-year-old Dequan Bird. The Marion County Coroner's office has notified his family. 

Indianapolis Metro Police were called to an apartment complex on Georgetown Road just after midnight Friday morning. They were responding to calls of multiple gunshots on Pendragon Blvd. in the Lake Camelot Apartments, which sit between 62nd and 71st Streets.

Officers found a man shot multiple times in a second floor exterior hallway when they arrived. Medics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

One of the witnesses told police he was injured jumping off a balcony during the shooting.

Homicide detectives say it started inside an apartment, and they're still looking for witnesses. They would like to encourage anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the Homicide office at 317-327-3475 or Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
