Notre Dame's Mike Brey says losing leading scorer Jerian Grant because of an academic violation might be the biggest challenge he's faced in his 14 seasons coaching the Fighting Irish.
Brey has lost key players before. But Brey said Monday this might be the most significant because Grant is so involved in the Irish offense and because Notre Dame is less than two weeks from its inaugural game in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Brey says he's not sure how the Irish will replace Grant, saying he and his staff must keep an open mind and evaluate everything when the players return from break the day after Christmas.
