No charges to be filed in Avon nude photo investigation

AVON -

No charges will be filed in an investigation of inappropriate photographs reportedly found on student's phones at Avon High School.

Cell phones belonging to at least 16 students were confiscated last week after reports of "inappropriate social media activity" involving high school students. Nude photos of female students, some as young as 14 years old, were discovered by school administrators.

Twenty-three students were being investigated, some of them had been suspended from school because of the photographs.

Police removed the inappropriate images from the seized phones and returned the phones to the students' legal guardians.

"We encourage all parents, teachers, community leaders, and role models to become aware of the social media capabilities of modern technology. We also encourage students and parents to discuss the importance of using social media and smartphone devices responsibly. Individuals who chose to disseminate photographs of themselves are not exempt from the standards of Indiana law," police wrote in a release.

Investigators say students were using a smartphone app to "hide" the naked photos on their phones.
