Illinois men arrested for fraudulent gift cards

Updated:
SHELBY COUNTY -

Two Illinois men are facing several felony charges after officers discovered potentially fraudulent gift cards during a traffic stop.

Trooper David Ploog stopped a Jeep SUV on I-74 eastbound in Shelby County Thursday night for a traffic violation. During the stop, Ploog detected that the driver of the vehicle, 27-year-old Igor Kravtsov and his passenger, 26-year-old Kirill Buryak, were lying to him and may have been engaging in criminal activity.

Further investigation by the trooper and the U.S. Secret Service determined the pair were in possession of 11 fraudulent gift cards. Each man is facing 11 felony charges of defrauding a financial institution.

Kravtsov was also issued a citation for unsafe lane movement, which initiated the traffic stop that uncovered the gift cards.
