Timing a question for Pence 2nd-year agenda

Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

Republican Gov. Mike Pence may have trouble trying to pack an expansive legislative agenda into an abbreviated meeting of the General Assembly when lawmakers reconvene next month.

The governor unveiled a second-year plan earlier this month that focuses on eliminating the personal property tax, establishing school vouchers for teachers and preschool-age children and a host of other items.

But he will have only two months to win approval from lawmakers and will have the upcoming battle over gay marriage competing for attention. House and Senate budget leaders have already cautioned that some items may have to wait until lawmakers have more time in 2015.

Pence dismissed any concerns last week that his agenda is "too robust" and said there are few surprises for lawmakers in what he is proposing.
