LAFAYETTE -

North-central Indiana police say a man whose car crashed into a ravine was trapped in its wreckage for nearly three hours before crews could free him.

Nearby resident Lonnie Swartz tells the Journal & Courier the man's car cartwheeled as it veered off of Old State Road 25 just northeast of Lafayette and plunged into the ravine about 11 .am. Friday.

Tippecanoe County Sheriff's deputies and emergency crews finally freed the man from the car's wreckage about 1 p.m. and took him to a Lafayette hospital.

The man's name and condition have not been disclosed.

Witness Robert Cline says the man was coherent and speaking but unable to move in the car's wreckage.
