Winter storm warning for central Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS -

A winter storm warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for Indianapolis north from Friday at 7pm through Saturday at 6pm. 

There is a winter weather advisory in effect south of Indianapolis. 

Snow will start to fall this evening between 7 and 9.  The snow will fall through at least mid-day Saturday. 

The highest totals of 4-6 inches of snow will fall just north of I-70.  This includes:  Lafayette, Kokomo, Tipton and Muncie.  Along and just south of I-70 there will be 3-5 inches of snow. 

This includes:  Indianapolis, Greencastle, Richmond, Avon and Greenwood.  Totals will be in the range of 1-3 inches in Bloomington and Columbus and cities south.  There might be some rain and sleet mixing the with snow south.

A brief round of cold air will follow, as highs only reach the 20s on Sunday.  Most of next week will be quiet, will milder air on the way.  We actually go above freezing and have 40s in the forecast by the end of the week.
